A bad "box color" can cost you two or three times more to fix than having it done by a professional in the first place.

On the subject of styling long hair, there's no magic potion or ceramic tourmaline blah-blah-blah that will make your hair look like the model on the cover of your favorite fashion magazine. It takes time, practice and the right advice on technique to get the results you're looking for. Go see someone who actually gives a damn. Gimmicks are for amateurs; and for God's sake, cut your hair into something you can both manage and be confident in. Long hair styling has been my forte for the better part of my career. So I love it. Its been my experience, though, that most women hold onto their hair for the wrong reasons. Mostly because it's safe. Safe is for followers. Be that person who is making a statement about themselves that actually says something cool and interesting, or stop complaining that your hair never looks great.

It's all about commitment.

Lynn

The Referral Program

Referrals are the best form of advertising for any business. Over the years I've worked with some great people, and they have been an incredible source of support, both professionally and personally. Without my clients, I would have no need for my own salon. The Velvet Seven is set up for the clients as well as hairdressers. However, I wanted to offer a place that is special. A place where anyone would be proud to go; and not just for the atmosphere, but for the pride we take in making clients our first priority. Something tells me he's not referring to beauty in a superficial sense. I agree. When you put something beautiful or positive out there, it reminds those of us who are witness to it that there is still a lot of good in our world.

Breast Cancer Awareness is coming up soon. So get involved with your local events. Show the world you care. It affects us all. In my humble opinion, Breast Cancer Awareness should be all year long.

A small bit of business news: ALFAPARF Milano has announced the new Anti-age Group for their Semi Di Lino Diamante line. (Available at The Velvet Seven.) So for those of you with sun and pool chemical damange, or if your hair is in need of a little refreshment from the days of summer blonde coloring, this new group of products will help repair and restore shine and vitality to your stressed out hair, as well as protect your expensive color

It's not "just hair"! It's your image. Nurture it.

Don't Settle for Less

The connection between stylist and client is a very personal relationship. This partnership has many sides. The most important of which is our joint quest to improve and maintain the client's image. The only way to really solidify that trust factor is to actually care! What happened to the days of hairdressing being about the experience of an expert, with objectivity and sincerity, pulling out all the stops, using all their power and creativity to bring out the best in you? I'll tell you.

The salon industry has been more volume-minded in recent years, and that means less time for not just the consultation but the execution! It comes down to pride in one's craft and self. People, that's what our clients deserve. No matter what the salon you go to charges for the services they provide. Don't settle for less. Confidence is what you came for. Don't leave without it.
